Founded in 1947 as the Norman Scott Company, Inc. In Tolerance is a unique growing business. Its specialty is delivering precision-machined parts. The company, located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was founded after numerous requests (dating back in the mid 1930's) of Arthur Collins (founder of Collins Radio). He (Arthur) needed to fulfill orders for radios that required special screws, knobs and connectors. The Norman Scott Company itself was incorporated in 1947.
In 1986 Robert D. Becker purchased the company from John Scott (Norman's son). The company began an active marketing culture and grew several-fold. During this time the company also expanded its manufacturing area and moved into its third location. Jack Hardin, the General Manager was hired in March of 1992 and brought professional management to the company. The company utilizes its own process control software (Automated Quote Inventory Scheduling System - AQUISS) it has written and developed with suggestions from employees over the past twenty years.
Today, In Tolerance (the name changed in 1988) is still a prime supplier to Rockwell Collins; however, the company's diverse customer base includes clients throughout the United States, Mexico and Puerto Rico who represent leading medical, aerospace, communications, food processing, and military industries. In Tolerance has been recognized as one of Iowa's outstanding precision contract manufacturers, and has received numerous awards and recognitions from organizations such as the Small Business Administration (SBA) , Cedar Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce , Rockwell Collins , Carleton Life Support Systems, Trans Technology Electronics, and second tier Boeing Aircraft suppliers. In October of 1998 In Tolerance was one of the first precision Machine shops in Iowa to become ISO certified.
